I take a special pride in my rats and only want the best for them. It is for that reason, I have chosen to be a closed rattery. This means my doors are closed to the public. Many rat illnesses are airborne. It is my choice to limit that risk and keep them as unexposed as possible. In order to offset this, I take many pictures of the babies I adopt out. I work hard at my photos so that true color shows. It is not always easy and sometimes I take in excess of 300 pictures just to get those special ones. You may not be able to come in my doors, but the choice of what baby you adopt is still yours. I stand behind my rats. So, if at time of pick up you are unhappy for any reason, the sale is simply cancelled. No harm, no foul. And the baby comes back to the rattery with me.
There are some rules that govern:
1. I reserve the right to refuse a sale.
2. My rats are Pet Only. Pet Only means NO breeding! The exception is if I am working with another breeder, then a breeders contract will apply.
3. I do not sell to anyone under 18. Anyone under 18 must have the sale conducted by the parent.
4. If for any reason you no longer want to/can keep the rat, you must contact me first. I will either take back (depending on quarantine space) or help you to re-home. But at NO time should a rat transfer ownership without contacting me. I am an easy person to get along with. So, if you have a friend that is interested, I will work with you. Common courtesy dictates the breeder be notified.
5. Rats must be housed, fed and watered in the appropriate manner.
6.. Sick rats must receive vet care. If life threatening, go immediately to your vet. I may be able to help with smaller issues, but I am not a vet and cannot take the place of proper veterinary care.
7. Stay in touch! I LOVE updates. Good or bad. It is your feedback that tells me what needs to be improved upon. Besides, I love hearing from you!
THE ADOPTION PROCESS:
A completed adoption form is required and must be approved prior to you selecting a rat! As a general rule, babies are released to new homes at 6 weeks. However, each and every litter is different. I do my best to handle all the babies so that they are confident and the stress of the adoption process is easier on them. I will not hesitate, however, to hold longer than 6 weeks if I feel it is necessary. Please note that I only adopt in (at least) pairs. Two reasons, rats are social animals and as such need others to make them happy. Also, 2-3 weeks in quarantine is too long for a single baby by themselves. Quarantine is STRONGLY advised. Also, please note that a 50% non-refundable deposit is require to hold a baby. The remainder is due at time of pick up. The rats will transfer directly from me to the new owner. Please be sure to bring your own chew proof carrier. Prior to the rats being transferred into your care, you will be asked to sign a contract of these policies. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Price. My prices generally range from $20 to $60, depending on the variety. I do not charge extra for ear set, hairless or rex coats. The following is a general guide to cost. Some rats with multiple genetic make-up such as Harley Silvermane will be slightly higher than the starting at price.
